Simon Maddison

Rock & pop, songwriting & production, academic music

Simon has planned, delivered, and assessed professional music qualifications to young aspiring musicians since 2013. He has studied music from BTEC up to Post-Graduate level and attained an upper second class honours degree in music alongside completing his Post-Graduate Certificate in Education with Qualified Teacher Status. At college, Simon not only completed his BTEC National Diploma with a 3 A* equivalent course grade, but he attained his grade 8 on guitar and grade 5 in music theory in the same year.

As a qualified classroom music teacher, Simon has taught music across all ages, from primary up to FE level.  He is specialised in teaching and leading Popular music ensembles, with over 10 years experience performing and tutoring young musicians in bands on the fundamentals of guitar, bass, drums, keys, and vocals. Simon is a well-versed multi-instrumentalist with an open and versatile approach to music styles and instrumental techniques, and is an assertive and passionate ensemble leader.

Simon currently works as a music technology teacher at Coulsdon Sixth Form College and has recently started his own home recording studio as an independent recording artist and studio producer. Simon has composed and released material under his alias “Silent Cities” which has garnered frequent airplay on BBC radio stations and he continues to be booked to perform at music festivals, since 2011.

Simon’s teaching approach promises to always be built around the interests of the student, whilst being augmented by his sharp sense of humour and questionable use of music puns.
