Award winners! GMS wins prestigious local prize

November 11, 2021

We are very proud to be winners at the prestigious Best of Royal Greenwich Business Awards 2021!

Greenwich Music School won the award for best Tourism and Culture organisation, in recognition for the amazing work of our team and teachers during the last year.

Our nomination described our resilience and innovation through the pandemic - we immediately switched lessons online, created special new courses for online delivery, and provided over 6,000 online lessons for children and adults. During this time we also increased financial support for families through our Bursary Fund, raising funds and supporting over 50 local families - the majority in receipt of Universal Credit. We continued to provide employment for our 27 professional musician teachers, and helped put Greenwich on the map for inclusive music education for all ages and abilities.

Over 230 organisations entered the business awards, so we were thrilled to be one of just 9 category winners for the borough.

Co-Founder and Principal Bethan Scolding collected our award, with a heartfelt acceptance speech. The buzzing awards ceremony was hosted by InterContinental London at The O2, led by actor Meera Syal CBE and attended by the Mayor of Greenwich Cllr Denise Hyland and Leader of the Council Cllr Danny Thorpe, together with hundreds of local business leaders, council delegates and the award judges.

We're grateful to Royal Borough of Greenwich council and our category sponsors Visit Greenwich and The O2.
