Sam is an experienced performer and educator. He trained at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama with Simon Rowland-Jones and Steven Burnard, and during his studies had the opportunity to perform across the UK and as part of a number of festivals, playing principal viola in the Symphony, Chamber, Opera and String Orchestras. Whilst still a student, Sam was an extra with Welsh National Opera and was awarded a trial with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra in Manchester.
After graduating from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama with distinction in performance, Sam pursued a busy freelance career across the country which saw him playing with most of the UK's major orchestras at home and abroad. In addition to orchestral work, Sam has performed chamber music and solo recitals for a number of organisations and festivals, and has appeared as an actor musician in films such as 'The Duchess' and 'Sherlock Holmes 2'! Sam has also undertaken a large amount of studio session work, including recording the music for Dustin Hoffman's film 'The Quartet', and even the X-Box game 'Halo'!
Following an invitation to co-found a whole school string orchestra programme in 2010, Sam now dedicates much of his time to education work; and specialises in developing skills-based teaching and curricula. He has a depth of knowledge of string teaching, incorporating a number of styles and methods into his own work. He currently leads the performance faculty at a local London school and aims to pass on his passion for music-making to as many people as possible!
