Helen Manente – Biography
As a freelance flautist for the past fifteen years, Helen’s experience has been extensive and wide-ranging, as an orchestral player, chamber musician, as an accomplished soloist and a keen tutor. Between 1999 and 2005, Helen studied at the Royal College of Music with Graham Mayger and Stewart McIlwham, gaining a BMus(Hons) and MMus. Her studies and career have taken her all over the UK, to Europe and as far as Mumbai. Helen lives in Kent with her husband and two sons, and as well as undertaking freelance performance opportunities, she teaches flute at Benenden School.
Education has always been an important aspect of Helen’s musical life, and she is constantly seeking to develop her skills as a flute tutor, ensemble leader and chamber music coach. She has taken part in numerous collaborations with many of London’s professional orchestras, and worked in many different environments with students of diverse backgrounds and abilities.
The ability to inspire her students with a love for the flute’s large and varied repertoire, whilst giving a thorough grounding in technique has made for an enjoyable and fulfilling career, and Helen is thrilled to have been appointed to the post of Flute Tutor with Greenwich Music School.
